Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Sumosam a good Japanese restaurant that offers halal chicken, which is great for Muslims. They have a lot of vegetarian options, which I appreciated. The prices are a bit high, but I found the ramen noodles very tasty and flavorful and the serving sizes were big enough. The fried rice was okay, and the shrimp carbonara was like regular carbonara, nothing special. Overall, I’d give it 4 stars for the variety, portions, and overall experience."
"I'll be honest, I was a bit skeptical of Sumo Sam. With a menu that spans everything from rice bowls and ramen to sushi and Japanese pizza, and a price point that's a bit high, I didn't know what to expect. But my visit was a pleasant surprise. We started with the Chicken Teriyaki Rolls. I anticipated a sauce that would be overly sweet, but their teriyaki sauce was well-balanced and savory, complementing the other ingredients perfectly. The accompanying soy sauce was also of excellent quality. The Gyudon was a classic done right. The beef was incredibly tender and well-seasoned, a comforting and satisfying dish with no room for complaint. For a spicier option, we tried the Tantanmen which was spicy but not too spicy to overpower the flavorful dish. With that said, I still think its priced a bit steep for a casual chain. But if you're in the mood for consistently delicious Japanese comfort food and are okay with paying a bit more, Sumo Sam is a surprisingly good option."
"With my mind thinking that the restaurant sucks due to the number of bad reviews, the food was good! For me and my mother, I ordered Dynamite Roll, Tempura set, and Katsu Curry. (They changed it to regular katsu because it is originally plant-based) The dynamite roll was okay, it was not bland and it was served in a low quantity, but the quality is very high due to the taste being delicious. For the tempura, my mother said it was okay, but also, really delicious! For me, I got the katsu curry which was way bigger than other famous restaurants and it tasted good with the Miso soup! Overall, 4/5 or 8/10. (service was really fast, but not so good.)"
"Food was excellent, servers were all attentive, I'll be back."
"Food were fresh and hot. Taste is average. Portions are okay. Service was quick and friendly. Comfortable seats."
"Had the sukiyaki and fried gyoza. Price is affordable; food is ok. Sukiyaki is on the sweetish side; my wife commented it's quite different from authentic Japanese sukiyaki (which she had in Japan). Her observation (since I liked it) is that Sumosam's recipe may be "lasang Pinoy.""
"The Restaurant Needs More Ventilation But The Food Was Great I Loved The Yakisoba"
"Good Japanese food. I can say that they have fused the subtle Filipino flavor into their dishes without deviating too much from its authentic Japanese roots. I give it a 4 in service because they are not prompt in attending to our water needs unlike other restaurants."
